Atrium Health Ballpark

Downtown revitalization takes centerfield

THE PROJECT:  The City of Kannapolis is breathing new life into its downtown area with a focused redevelopment initiative. The hub of this transformation is the new Atrium Health Ballpark, the cornerstone of this large mixed-use development. The program space is comprised of approximately 152,000 square feet (excluding the playing field) and includes team clubhouses, batting cages, concessions, club spaces and patron seating.

OUR SOLUTION:  Jezerinac Group served as Engineer of Record for the structural design of the 6,800-seat outdoor venue, which will host the Kannapolis Intimidators of the Low A Sally League, concerts, local high school and regional sporting events, as well as other community gatherings. The playing field is set approximately 15 feet below street level, creating a bowl effect that allows for unobstructed views of the field from the 360-degree concourse. Brick veneer cladding and exposed structural steel framing creates a modern classic theme that alludes to the City of Kannapolis’ industrious past.
