AdventHealth Training Center

A winning design to empower high performance

THE PROJECT: When professional basketball team Orlando Magic partnered with local healthcare giant Advent Health, Jezerinac Group was thrilled to help them create one state-of-the-art administrative, medical and training facility. A great example of style meets function, the facility features doctor’s offices, diagnosis and medical imaging areas, as well as hydrotherapy treatment and rehabilitation rooms.

The top-flight training experience for players, includes three basketball courts identical to the game court in Amway Center, indoor training facilities, a weight room, luxury team locker rooms and dining facilities. For administrative staff, a modern office and meeting environment provides a draft war room, several outdoor terraces, a rooftop gathering and event space all of which is supported over grade level parking.

OUR SOLUTION: Jezerinac Group also worked integrally with the design and construction teams to ensure the project remained on time and within budget. This included issuing accelerated foundation and super structure packages such that construction could begin as soon as possible, designing the structural steel connections to increase speed to fabrication, and assessing the cost benefit of alternate structural systems and construction techniques.

The building’s frame is a hybrid system of structural steel and post tensioned concrete. The upper levels are composite structural steel with custom 160-foot clear-span bow-string trusses over the courts. The steel frame is supported by a post-tensioned concrete slab. This system was developed to maximize material efficiency for varying column grids tailored to the different program requirements, while minimizing the need for transfer beams.

The mass and stiffness of the post-tensioned slab was calculated to produce floor vibrations within the acceptable spectrum of the sensitive imagining equipment. The building enclosure is comprised of cold formed steel framing and impact-resistant doors and windows designed to accommodate vertical floor deflections and lateral building drift.
