THE PROJECT: A renovation project of the existing Student Union building included the addition of a 35,000 square foot, 120-foot clear-span Banquet Hall. Pre-function and back-of-house spaces surround the main banquet space that is framed with a dramatic, tall, rectangular clerestory space to allow ample natural lighting.
Jezerinac Group provided structural design services to the architect and served as Engineer of Record for the project. The structural system consists primarily of a structural steel frame, with custom, long-span trusses over the banquet hall.
OUR SOLUTION: The sloping exterior façade created significant coordination challenges between architect, structural engineer and contractor. We provided advanced downstream Revit BIM services directly to the contractor to establish the relationship between the façade panels and the steel frame, and provided exact façade panel coordinates directly to the precast subcontractor.
The exterior design of this architectural jewel is highlighted by sloped precast concrete wall panels as well as elegant cantilevered precast concrete canopies at the building’s main entrance. These cascading concrete elements provide a beautiful new backdrop to social, recreational, and cultural activities, significantly enriching student life.
