Interstate Plaza

A fresh façade and reinforced structure

THE PROJECT:  Drivers on busy Highway I-95 outside Boca Raton are familiar with this highly visible two-building office complex, originally constructed in 1979. The owner initiated a renovation of both buildings, looking to bring a modern look and feel to the façade and expand the existing structure with additional outdoor spaces and aesthetic details.

OUR SOLUTION:  As Structural Engineer of Record for the expansion and re-positioning of this existing office complex, we created a design plan for replacing all doors and windows with impact-resistant materials. The updated structural system consists of structural steel framing, replacing the existing prestressed precast joists and soffit beams. Expansion systems included the addition of two separate two-story structures on top of the existing two-story parking deck of the 1489 Tower, a walkout terrace at Office Level 3 and miscellaneous trellis and plaza structures/planters.
