Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office Substation

Jezerinac Group provided structural design services for a single-story, 20,000 SF PBSO Substation District 1 and Marine Enforcement Unit building in West Palm Beach, Florida.

the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office required a new building to serve as a state-of-art headquarters and marine enforcement unit building. Jezerinac Group provided economical solutions for the demanding design criteria associated with the occupancy nature of the PBSO Headquarters.

Jezerinac Group’s services included the design of an approximately 5,000 square-foot, 6-bay marine maintenance garage. The garage has a roof height of approximately 30’-0”, and the roof is supported by LH-series open web steel joists spanning approximately 62’-0”. The joists are supported on cast-in-place concrete walls, which were designed to accommodate large openings for overhead doors and corbels to support an overhead traveling bridge crane. As a police station and emergency vehicle garage, the building was designed to resist wind speeds for Risk Category IV buildings. Walls not supporting roof joists or the bridge crane were designed to resist these wind loads using 12” reinforced concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction. The PBSO District 1 Sherriff’s Office Building was designed using exterior load-bearing CMU walls, which supported cold-formed steel engineered roof trusses to achieve a hip roof profile. The building features an entry tower, for which Jezerinac Group designed gabled structural steel framing above the lobby. The project is currently under construction.
